Also known as ‘The Golden City’, San Francisco is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the US, with an exciting atmosphere and plenty to see and do.

It’s a city known for its unique geography, with steep rolling hills, but don’t worry, you can save your legs a bit of work and take the quirky cable car to get around.

Of course, the most well-known attraction in the city is the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, which offers spectacular views over the San Francisco Bay.

Another major attraction is Alcatraz Island, the spookily abandoned offshore prison, and the Yosemite National Park isn’t too far away, allowing you to get away from it all amongst the giant sequoia groves and waterfalls.

Once the sun goes down, the city is home to a number of great restaurants if you fancy a bite to eat, or you can head to the Mission District which has a great Latino music scene.

For shopping, be sure to head to Union Square, which has a Macy’s department store, and a little further away you’ll also find the Westfield Mall.

San Francisco is also considered something of a foodie hub within the US, with over 3,500 restaurants, which is impressive considering there are less than 900,000 residents.

Why fly business class?

If you’re considering flying to San Francisco from the UK, why not think about upgrading to business class?

Business class passengers gain a number of benefits such as increased legroom, a more diverse gourmet food menu, complimentary drinks and access to their own executive lounge.

Popular routes

Most direct flights to the area arrive at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) although there are also limited flights to neighbouring Oakland International (OAK) and direct flights from London to either airport will take around eleven hours.

From elsewhere in the country such as Manchester, you’ll have to catch an indirect flight, which will take longer although may be better value.
